Reading Inset Plans

Our Inset will be focussing on Reading and the rough outline of our agenda is below - a lot to think about as you will see!

Why are we focussing on reading?
Aims:
Know expectations of new curriculum
Implications for Reading at Bitterne Manor Primary
Share results for EYFS; KS1 and KS2

Walk of the school
What are we currently doing for Reading at BMPS? 
- focus teaching and learning of AND to promote enjoyment
Take post-it notes around to ‘capture’ evidence
Share feedback from each group – record under T&L; Enjoyment

Share new curriculum expectations
What does this mean for BMPS? In groups discuss and share
So what are our next steps? (Can think big!)

Book Corner: 
Promote reading for pleasure through book corner development
  • Each class have £50.00 (can add from class budget of you have any!)
  • Share some photos (also promote class reading book) – how do you want to promote ‘love’ for reading?
  • Time to talk and plan with team
  • Share and feedback
  • Bitterne Manor Book Days
World Book Day
3 days promoting enjoyment
  • Assembly on Wednesday to launch
  • Must have a book to inspire reading and writing activities 
  • Dress up on Thurs – bedtime reading again?
  • ‘Shelfies’ Competition 
  • Time to talk and plan with team 
  • Share and feedback 
Review Reading at BMPS
Focus on teaching & learning of reading
promoting reading; whole class teaching; guided sessions

Teaching and Learning of Reading – what does it look like across the school?
How do we evidence ‘pleasure’ for reading?
What are we doing the same? What needs to be consistent?
How do we make guided reading manageable?
Teaching & Learning of Reading 
Plan guided reading sessions - including bank of activities to capture evidence – tablet; sticky labels; follow up tasks etc
Action plan for peer to peer support over Spring 2
Each group share their planning and action plan
Come back and review this in KS meeting in week 3 and staff meeting

Policy Card Ideas:
· Every class has a reader every half term
· Record readers on curriculum map
· Weekly planning document for guided reading
· Response tasks for guided reading and recorded in purple guided reading books
· Strategies to capture evidence
· Use of other adults
